Stain AFB (ZN Stain) Test checks for the presence of Acid fast bacilli in the collected specimen, most commonly sputum
but can be other body fluids too. Acid-fast bacilli (Mycobacteria) are a group of rod-shaped bacteria (bacilli) that can
be seen under the microscope following a staining procedure with Ziehl Neelson Or ZN stain. The bacteria retains the
color of the stain after an acid wash, hence called as acid-fast. This test is usually ordered when the doctor suspects
Tuberculosis, the symptoms of which include chronic cough, weight loss, loss of appetite.
