Indirect Coombs Test
Indirect Coombs test is a blood test that looks for antibodies against Red Blood Cells (RBCs) in the patient\'s blood. It
detects free antibodies in the serum (the liquid part of the blood) as opposed to direct coombs test which looks for
antibodies attached to the surface of RBCs. The doctor may prescribe this test before a blood transfusion to check for
any harmful antibodies that may cause reaction against the donor blood. It is also a part of prenatal screening in
pregnant woman to check if mothers blood has antibodies against the babys RBCs.
