Glucose tolerance test is a blood test that determines the body ability to process glucose (sugar). Glucose enters our
bloodstream after digestion of the food we eat. This glucose is taken up by the body cells for energy with the help of
insulin. The glucose levels in blood rises after a meal but should fall back again once taken up by the cells. However,
due to insulin resistance or low production of insulin, glucose levels in blood can remain high which may be indicative
of diabetes. Diabetes can lead to heart disease, nerve damage, eye disease and kidney damage.
