A Dexa BMD 3 sites Scan is a unique type of X-ray that measures Bone Mineral Density ( BMD) at three sites - femur, spine and forearm. The test uses X-rays to determine the amount of calcium and other bone minerals packed into a segment of bone. It helps to check for lower than normal bone mass (osteopenia) as well as osteoporosis. These conditions makes the bone brittle and fragile and hence more prone to fractures. This test can help detect bone weakness early when the treatment may be beneficial.
