Thyroglobulin Test
The thyroglobulin test is a blood test that measures the amount of thyroglobulin in the blood. Thyroglobulin is a protein made by the cells of the thyroid gland which is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located in front of the neck. This test is mostly used as a tumor marker test to help guide thyroid cancer treatment. It is useful for follow-up of patients with differentiated thyroid cancers after thyroidectomy and ablation. It also acts as an aid in determining the presence of thyroid metastasis to lymph nodes. In the absence of significant thyroid remnants, elevated or rising Tg levels are suspicious of recurrent or persistent disease.
