Prolactin Test
Prolactin test is a blood test that measures the amount of hormone prolactin in the blood. It is released by the
pituitary gland which is a gland located at the base of the skull. It usually rises during and post pregnancy to help
the breasts produce milk. Thus prolactin Levels are usually higher in pregnant and breastfeeding ladies but are normally
low for nonpregnant women and for men. Abnormally high levels can cause menstrual problems and infertility in women and
impotence in men. Its levels may be risen in a tumour of pituitary known as prolactinoma.
