GCT Glucose Challenge Test
Glucose challenge test is a blood test used to screen for diabetes during pregnancy. A glucose rich drink is taken
orally by the patient and after 1 hour of its administration, blood sample is taken to check for glucose levels in
blood. The body uses glucose for energy with the help of insulin. The blood glucose levels should hence fall back to
normal if insulin is sufficient and used well by the cells. In case of insulin resistance or deficiency, blood Glucose
levels remain high indicating diabetes risk.
