Troponin T Test
Troponin T test measures the amount of troponin T in the blood. It is a protein present in the heart muscles and not normally present in blood. It is a cardiac marker elevated only in patients suffering from heart attack (acute Myocardial Infarction). A heart attack occurs when the blood flow to the heart is interrupted. Its symptoms include shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and chest pain. Its levels are elevated within 3 hours after the onset of heart attack and can remain so until 14 days. High levels are also seen in Unstable angina. It may also be used in monitoring patients with non-ischemic causes of cardiac injury like viral infections.
